Policy - Network Drives - Access and Change Requests

TechZone policy regarding access and change requests for departmental network drives.

This article defines the requirements for requests related to departmental network drives (Shared Drives) and shared folders.

Requests

If a request does not meet one of these requirements, the TechZone will copy an appropriate owner on the ticket and request confirmation.

Access or Change a Folder

Requests to access or change a folder must

  1. come from a folder or drive owner OR
  2. include confirmation of the access or change from a folder or drive owner.

Create a Folder or Change the Drive

Requests for a new folder or related to the entire network drive must

  1. come from a drive owner OR
  2. include confirmation of the request from a drive owner.

Ownership

Folder Ownership

The TechZone defines the owner of an individual folder as any faculty or staff member with permission to modify the folder. TechZone staff are able to determine if an individual is an owner of a particular folder.

Students are never considered folder owners.

Drive Ownership

In addition to the ownership rules above, the TechZone will coordinate with departmental leadership to designate one or more persons as overall network drive owners. These individuals will be considered owners of any shared folder whether or not they would be an owner as defined above.
