The Elroy-Sparta Bike Trail is a 32-mile rail trail between Elroy and Sparta, Wisconsin. It is one of four connecting bike trails in west-central Wisconsin that spans approximately one-third of the state. The trail is highly acclaimed as one of the most scenic bike trails in the country. Bicycle rental and camping is available adjacent to the trail. Trail fees required for bikers 16 years of age and older: Daily trail pass $4; Annual pass $20. Passes are good on any Wisconsin State Trail and are available at the Headquarters and Concession Center.
Directions: Take I-90 to Sparta, then south on Highway 71. Features include three cavernous tunnels, the longest being 3/4 mile long.
Trail headquarters is located at Kendall Depot, which features a railroad history museum, trail passes, souvenirs, bike rentals and driver services.
Trail passes are required for bikers 16 years of age and older. A daily trail pass is $5 and an annual pass is $25. These are good on any Wisconsin State Trail. Bike trails will open on May 1. In the winter this trail and surrounding trails are well marked and maintained by local snowmobile clubs. There is no charge for snowmobiling or hiking.
