Madison Initiative for Undergraduates
University of Wisconsin-Madison students are beginning to reap the rewards of a campus-wide effort to boost the value, quality and affordability of an undergraduate education made possible by the Madison Initiative for Undergraduates.
The initiative uses a supplemental tuition charge to invest in the quality of the undergraduate experience while vastly expanding the pool of need-based aid available for UW-Madison students and their families.
The initiative is adding faculty and instructional support in high-demand areas and provide increased funding to vital student services. It is also significantly increasing need-based financial aid by matching the tuition revenues we devote to financial aid with private fundraising for that purpose. Even after the tuition increase is fully implemented in 2013, both UW-Madison’s in-and out-of-state tuition will remain near the bottom of the Big Ten, while the university’s quality remains at the top.
