Examity - Accessing an Exam with Examity (Student)

This document outlines the steps required for students to access an exam in Examity.

    All students will access Examity through their Canvas course. To access your exams in Examity, please follow the steps outlined below.
    1. The day prior to your exam, we recommend doing this systems test provided by Examity.
      • You must use a Google Chrome browser to take an exam with Examity.
      • You need a laptop, microphone, webcam, and stable internet access to take an exam with Examity. If you do not meet the requirements of the systems test, please reach out to your instructor.
    2. Navigate to the Canvas course of the class with an exam in Examity.
    3. Click on the Examity Service link added by your instructor. It will likely be in a module titled Examity.
    4. Click on the Load Examity Service in a new window button. When you do this, the Examity user interface will open in a new tab.Load tool in a new window highlighted
    5. If this is your first time accessing Examity, you will need to create a profile as outlined in Examity - Setting up a Profile (Student). It is recommended that you complete this step at least one day before you take your exam.
    6. Once in Examity, identify the exam you are supposed to take. Note that all of the exams available for you to take will be listed.

    7. You can either schedule your exam for a future date in the exam window by clicking the Schedule button, or you can start the exam immediately if you are within the exam window. 
    8. If you have any issues or find that you need assistance, please see Examity - Troubleshooting and Getting Support (Student).
    9. When you start your exam, you will be required to prepare your Chrome browser and answer questions to confirm your identity. This includes:
      • Installing the Examity extension to your Chrome browser
        • The Examity extension will be automatically uninstalled once you complete the exam.
      • Taking a photo of your photo ID with your webcam. Make sure it is the same photo ID you used during your Examity setup.
      • Answering one of the challenge questions you set up in your profile
    10. After going through the authentication process, a new browser window containing your exam and the Examity window will automatically open. 
    11. Examity will provide the credentials for you to access your exam by clicking the Exam Password button. Once the exam is unlocked, you can begin your exam.

      • After unlocking your exam, you can minimize the Examity window by clicking the ⊖ button in the upper right corner.
    12. Once you complete your exam, make sure to submit it so Canvas can capture your submission. Once your exam is submitted to Canvas, click End session so Examity can conclude its proctoring tasks.

      • Once you click the End session button, the Examity browser will close and the extension will be removed. 
    13. Examity will send a report of any flags that occurred during your exam session to your instructor in 48-72 hours.
