Policy overview

To uphold our commitment to creating a diverse, inclusive and supportive atmosphere for everyone, UW–‍Madison has adopted the Digital Accessibility Policy. The policy is effective July 1, 2023. The implementation will roll out in a phased, multi-year approach.

The digital accessibility policy aligns with UW–‍Madison and UW System policies that protect people with disabilities against discrimination and honors our institutional statement on diversity. The policy does this through raising awareness of digital accessibility best practices, guiding the university toward designing and purchasing accessible technology, and establishing a network of digital accessibility liaisons who will share accessibility best practices with their local units.

Center for User Experience

The Center for User Experience (CUE) will support the policy through their accessibility evaluation and consultation services. These services are available for currently used digital resources and technologies and also during procurement and development processes. CUE will also work with the digital accessibility liaison network to support liaisons in keeping their units up to date with the policy phases, resources, and needs they may have.

Digital accessibility liaisons

Digital accessibility liaisons partner with CUE to provide consultation and implementation guidance for their units and will be the primary points of contact for digital accessibility issues regarding procurement, technical consultations, barrier reporting and policy compliance.

The intent of the liaison network is to provide a conduit for communication between distributed units, central leadership, and CUE.

Services and support

CUE partners with you to create more accessible, usable and inclusive digital spaces for all students, faculty and staff. We consult, design, research, and evaluate digital content for the university. Part of this work includes supporting the digital accessibility policy and the liaison network, but anyone can fill out our contact form to schedule a consultation and work with us.

Evaluation services

CUE provides accessibility evaluation and consulting for university content or vended products that are current contracts or are in a formal agreement with the University of Wisconsin–Madison.

Office hours

Open office hours are available for liaisons and any university community member who may be helping a liaison with barrier remediation or product procurement and development. They are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays. A meeting link can be found on our resources for digital accessibility liaisons webpage.
