Accessibility and usability barriers
The following information is provided to help people with disabilities know what potential barriers may exist.
Screen reader accessibility barriers may impact users who are blind or have low vision
When navigating the date picker via screen reader, the values (month or date) that receive focus as the user moves around are not announced dynamically. Instead, the current date (today’s date) is announced repeatedly.
When a search returns no results, this status message is not announced to the user. Additionally, when the user navigates forward through the page, the text “No results found” is skipped by a screen reader; the text is not in the reading order at all.
Keyboard navigation barriers may impact users with motor or vision disabilities
The “Skip to Main Content” link does not work on pages where the Events Calendar plugin is used. Upon selecting the Skip link, the page reloads but focus remains at the top of the page.
Low color contrast may impact users who are colorblind or have low vision
When the page is magnified to 250% or higher in Month view, the calendar reflows so that dates with events are indicated by dots. When a date is selected, the dot color and the background color are inverted — however, the date text color does not invert (change from black to white). This results in very low contrast due to black text on a dark background color.
Depending on the calendar colors chosen by the site owner or webpage creator, there may be other instances of low color contrast in the Events Calendar, such as a low contrast focus indicator in the date picker, or low/no contrast between the current date and the currently selected date in the date picker.
