Researcher Toolkit Accessibility and Usability Information

This document summarizes the accessibility and usability barriers identified during testing as well as how to get help when using the Researcher Toolkit. The Researcher Toolkit is a resource for UW-Madison faculty, staff, and student researchers that points to helpful resources for each phase of your research project. The toolkit is a joint project between the Wisconsin Institute for Discovery(WID), the Data Science Hub, the American Family Insurance Data Science Institute, the UW-Madison Libraries, and DoIT. The Researcher Toolkit was formerly the Research Project Resource Guide (RPRG).

Accessibility & usability barriers

The following information is provided to help people with disabilities know what potential barriers may exist.

Interface barriers create difficulties perceiving information for some users, such as people with low vision.

Rows within tables lack strong color contrast to separate data cells.

Some barriers for individuals using screen readers to enhance accessibility, such as people with low vision and blindness.

The filter fields in tables are missing label form to indicate its functionality.  Radio buttons are missing state change, so they do not read “selected or unselected.”  Some instances of empty alt text and skipped heading levels. Links assigned heading levels, which is not helpful to screen reader users.
