GetWIse Accessibility and Usability Information

This document summarizes the accessibility and usability barriers identified during testing as well as how to get help.

GetWIse is a series of programs designed to explore respectful sex and relationships, as well as sexual and relationship violence in college. First year and new transfer students are required to complete a GetWIse program. The course is accessed through Canvas, and uses a third-party web app that poses some accessibility barriers.

Accessibility and usability barriers

The following information is provided to help people with disabilities know what potential barriers may exist.

Screen reader and keyboard navigation barriers may create difficulty advancing through course material for some users

For many interactive elements in the web app such as sliding content or quizzes, the visual user experience is different from what’s announced by a screen reader. This includes the screen reader announcing content that is not displayed visually, skipping content that is displayed visually, or some other mismatch between the visual and auditory content. Content is also sometimes skipped or inaccessible via keyboard. Students often have to make certain selections within the course material to advance to the next section, and that can be difficult to accomplish with these barriers.
