Top Hat Accessibility and Usability Information

Top Hat is a learning tool (DLT or LTI) integrated into Canvas. This document summarizes the accessibility and usability barriers identified during testing as well as how to get help.

Accessibility & usability barriers 

The following information is provided to help people with disabilities know what potential barriers may exist.

Magnification barriers create difficulties perceiving information for some users, such as people with low vision

When content is magnified at and above 250%, some elements begin to become crowded or get pushed off of the screen. Live slide presentations also cannot be magnified. 

Keyboard barriers may create difficulties accessing content for some users, such as users with motor disabilities

Some elements, such as the toolbars and some tools in presentation mode, are left out of the keyboard navigation order. There are also some elements such as menus and popup boxes that don’t behave as expected with keyboard interaction. 

Screen reader barriers may created difficulty for some users, such as people who are blind or have low vision

Some elements in the Q&A features lack screen reader announcements. Also, throughout the site, labels are not always programmatically associated with text fields or other form elements and will be announced separately.
