Accessibility and usability barriers

The following information is provided to help people with disabilities know what potential barriers may exist.

Keyboard navigation barriers may limit accessibility for some users, such as people with motor disabilities

In the Web Inbox, there is at least one instance of a link that is not accessible by keyboard. This is the link to download the .WAV audio file for any voicemail message. It can only be accessed by right-clicking on the link, opening it in a new tab, and then signing in again.

Screen reader barriers may limit accessibility for some users, such as people who are blind or have low vision

Tables are used for layout throughout the application, which could make it difficult for users of assistive technology to navigate the content and use interactive elements.

The HTML document does not have a lang attribute to specify the language of the page as English. Additionally, there are no landmarks or page regions to facilitate easy navigation by users of assistive technology.

Some buttons are not marked up with the appropriate role and label, resulting in a confusing user experience.

In the Web Inbox, upon selecting the "Refresh" button, there is no announcement that confirms the page has been refreshed or indicates the results of the refresh.

In the Settings pages, there are text subheadings that appear to be headings visually, but semantically they are marked up as table captions, which makes it difficult to navigate to and understand the content.

Magnification and reflow barriers may limit accessibility for some users, such as people who are color blind or have low vision

When the Web Inbox page is magnified to 200% or higher, the user must horizontal scroll to access all content on the page.

When any Settings page is magnified to 400%, the user must horizontal scroll to access all content on the page.

Low contrast may limit accessibility for some users, such as people who are color blind or have low vision

There are several instances of low contrast text throughout the application. In the Web Inbox:

  1. There is white text on a light green background that has a contrast ratio of about 2:1.

  2. There is white text on a light blue background that has a contrast ratio of about 3.5:1.

  3. The "Edit" link is light gray text on an off-white background, which has a contrast ratio of about 1.5:1.

  4. The blue highlight that is used to indicate keyboard focus has a low contrast ratio with any blue text used in the application. For example, any links with blue text have a 2:1 contrast ratio in focus state.

There is at least one instance of low contrast text in the Settings pages.

Additionally, the initial Cisco email that notifies the user of a voice message has very small text, and several blocks of text have low contrast against the background colors used (blue and gray).
