Adapted Fitness/Kinesiology 125 application and enrollment instructions for guest or senior guest students
To apply and enroll as a client in Adapted Fitness/Kinesiology 125 as a Guest (UGST) or Senior Guest Auditor (UGSR).
Eligibility for Adapted Fitness
Only those who have had a formal meeting with Kecia Doyle (Adapted Fitness Program Coordinator for the Dept. of Kinesiology) and have been invited by Kecia to apply are eligible to attend. Those who have not met with Kecia and are interested in finding out more about Adapted Fitness, please email adaptedfitness@education.wisc.edu.
Once you have been invited by Kecia to apply, please follow the instructions below:
Apply to UW-Madison as an auditor
- Are you under age 60? Select Guest auditors (UGST) when filling out the University Special Student online application. Online is the preferred way to apply. If you are not able to apply online, a paper application is available here for print or a hard copy can be provided to you by Kecia or the Adult Career and Special Student Services (ACSSS) Office. Make sure to fill out the “University Special and Guest Student Application” and the "Residence for tuition purposes/record of residence" portion of the application thoroughly. Contact ACSSS at 608-263-6960 if you have any questions filling out the paper application.
- Are you age 60 or older? Apply as a Guest Auditor, Senior Guest Auditor (UGSR) using the University Special Student online application. Completing the online application is the preferred way to apply. If you are not able to complete an online application, a paper application is available here or a hard copy can be provided to you by Kecia or the Adult Career and Special Student Services (ACSSS) Office (see contact info below). Make sure to complete the application that says “University of Wisconsin–Madison Wisconsin Residents 60 Years and Older UGSR Application" on top. Contact ACSSS at 608-263-6960 if you have any questions filling out the paper application.
- Detailed instructions for completing the online application can be found here or a hard copy can be provided to you by Kecia or the Adult Career and Special Student Services (ACSSS) Office.

IMPORTANT APPLICATION TIPS-
Residency Evaluation or Residence for tuition purposes portion of the application:
- When filling out an online application (UGST or UGSR), you must select and complete the "Residency Evaluation" located at the end of the application before you submit.
- Guest auditors (UGST) (under age 60) filling out the paper application, make sure you complete the "Residence for tuition purposes/record of residence".
- Senior guest auditors (UGSR) (age 60+) filling out the paper application, complete all portions of Senior guest auditor application. If a question doesn't apply to you, write "not applicable" and write why. Do not leave any space blank.
- The residency determination is made by the office of the registrar. If the office of the registrar has any questions about your application, they will send an email to your wisc.edu email address from "Residencefortuition@registrar.wisc.edu". The office of the registrar will need to receive answers to their questions before you can be admitted to UW-Madison. Reply to them right away to avoid delays in being admitted.
Admission to UW-Madison
- A day or two after you submit your online application, you will receive an email from ACSSS that says "While you have not been admitted yet, you are assigned the following UW-Madison Campus ID number: 9XXXXXXXXXX". This means your application has been received and is being processed.
- If you are a Guest Auditor (UGST) you will receive an email from guest auditor advisor Anne Niendorf (anne.niendorf@wisc.edu) regarding your application status.
- Once your application is processed and you are admitted, you will receive a second email from ACSSS that says in the body of the email "Welcome! You are admitted to the University of Wisconsin-Madison for {Term and Year} as a University Special student, University Guest Auditor OR Senior Guest Auditor (UGST OR UGSR)". Once you receive this email, make sure to email adaptedfitness@education.wisc.edu and let them know you have been admitted.
Set up your NetID (for access to Canvas)
If you’re a returning Guest or Senior auditor and have forgotten your NetID and/or password, please contact the DoIT Help Desk (608-264-4357).
Your NetID is a university-assigned username which will allow you to access your MyUW student portal and Canvas. You must activate your NetID and create a password for your account.
Use the following steps to help you.
- Go to www.mynetid.wisc.edu.
- Enter your 10-digit campus ID number (this was provided to you in your admission email and letter) and your Date of Birth.
- Click activate.
- You will be given your NetID (this will be some combination of your first and last name).
- Create a password unique to you and your account.
- Be sure to write down your NetID and password as you will need to use this frequently.
Enrollment into Adapted Fitness
- As a client of Adapted Fitness, the special student admissions office (UW-Madison ACSSS) will enroll you one to two weeks before the start of classes.
- Once enrolled you can obtain a student ID at UW-Madison Union South 1308 W Dayton St, at the Wiscard office, located near the information desk on the first floor of Union South. A student ID will give you access to the libraries and computer labs on campus.
Tuition
Are you eligible for your Adapted Fitness tuition to be waived?
- Admitted senior guest auditors (UGSR) (age 60+), your tuition is automatically waived. No further information is needed from you for your tuition to be waived.
- If you are an admitted Guest auditor (UGST) (under age 60) receiving SSDI or SSI and a Wisconsin Resident your tuition can be waived. Your residency status will be listed on your admission letter. You must submit a copy of your SSDI/SSI benefits letter to our office via mail or send a scan/photo and email for your tuition to be waived. If you do not have a copy of your SSDI/SSI letter, you can obtain one at your local Social Security office or request one through the Social Security Administration here. Please note: If you have attended Adapted Fitness in the past and have submitted an SSI/SSDI letter to our office before, you do not need to submit a letter again. Our office should already have your documentation on file and can waive your tuition. If you would like to check to see if your SSI/SSDI information is on file at our office, contact Anne Niendorf, academic advisor at ACSSS at 608-265-5120 or anne.niendorf@wisc.edu.
- If you are a Guest auditor (UGST) under age 60, a Wisconsin resident, and NOT receiving SSI/SSDI benefits you will be charged guest audit tuition. Your residency status will be listed on your admission email Guest audit tuition is approximately $108.00 per credit (Adapted Fitness is a one-credit course) along with a one-time $130.00 documentation fee.
- If you are a Guest Auditor (UGST) under or over age 60 and are a non-resident of Wisconsin, you will be charged nonresident tuition, which is approximately $751.00 per credit (Adapted Fitness is a one-credit course) along with a one-time $130.00 documentation fee (if you have never been enrolled in a course at UW-Madison before).
- For current guest audit tuition rates, go to "Tuition and Segregated Fee Rate Schedule". Select "Guest Auditor" from "Select Specific Tuition Rate" drop-down.
- To pay your tuition (once you are enrolled in Adapted Fitness and if you are not eligible for your tuition to be waived), follow these steps:
- Type "my.wisc.edu" into the address bar of your web browser.
- Sign in using your NetID and password.
- Select the square that says "Student Center"
- Inside your "Student Center" select the square that says "Financial Accounts"
- Inside "Financial Accounts" select "Management my Payment"
- If you would prefer not to pay your tuition online, you can contact the Bursars office here for more payment options or via tuition@bussvc.wisc.edu or 608-262-3611.
