As the representative for District 424 I want to act as an advocate and help shape decisions that will have a direct impact on the staff at UW. Navigating the ins and outs of the University is challenging and I want to bring direct and clear communication to our district to make sure we all have an opportunity to understand and provide feedback on decisions that will be made. I want to bridge the gaps between the stakeholders, amplify our voices, and ensure that the universities policies reflect our needs and unite us as a community.  In my past positions I've been fortunate to act as an advocate for youth and students from diverse cultures and communities, and now I would like to use my advocacy skills to support my peers and co-workers and ensure that future governance reflects a future befitting our positions. 

Rebecca Share, Academic Advisor

As I pursued my Master’s degree in College Student Affairs, I worked an assistantship as an academic advisor. After graduating, my first job was advising nursing students at Miami of Ohio. On May 1, 2020, I joined the academic advising team in the College of Engineering (CoE) at UW-Madison. It is not inaccurate to say that a love of higher education in general, and of advising in particular, has shaped much of my adult life. While it was challenging to start a new role in the early days of the pandemic, it also enabled me to quickly learn how adaptable, resilient, and compassionate a community I had joined. In the years since, the CoE advising team has transformed. Of the 17 of us, only our director, the three advising managers, and one academic advisor have been in the office longer than myself. As such, I have had the opportunity to witness many academic advisors from a wide variety of personal and professional backgrounds acclimate to their roles at UW-Madison. In doing so, I’ve developed a deeper understanding of the ways in which advisors are impacted by the layers of decision-making upon which this large university are built. Academic advisors – along with other student services staff – are the “boots on the ground” of UW-Madison. We are often some of the first to see how agendas, guidelines, and policies that come down the pipeline impact both our colleagues and the students we serve. My vision of shared governance is one that gives those of us with our boots on the ground a seat at the table where decisions are made. From what I have seen, UW-Madison academic advisors are passionate about the success of our advisees, the wellbeing of our colleagues, and a vision of higher education as a public good. It would be my honor to help my advising colleagues make their voices heard.

Zach Wyman, Academic Advising Manager

Greetings all!

My name is Zach Wyman, I am an academic advising manager for the Department of Soil Science working with both undergraduate and graduate students. I started working at UW-Madison in May of this year after spending 5 years advising at Purdue in Electrical and Computer Engineering. As you’ll see below, I’ve served on several committees and organization boards throughout my professional career.

Being new to the UW community, I’d love to share a bit more about myself. I have twins (Amelia & Everett) who will be turning 3 in October, and they love their puppy sibling, Comiskey. Since my children are young, I have no plans on moving out of Madison anytime soon – I hope to continue working here at least through their graduation from UW. Since becoming a Badger, I’ve jumped at any opportunity presented to connect with you all, my colleagues. I’ve joined graduate coordinator book clubs, attended various professional development opportunities, started meeting some of you at SOAR, and I am excited to be a part of the Racial Justice and Healing Collective for the 2023 – 2024 academic year. I haven’t met most of you, but I look forward to meeting each of you and learning about your experiences at UW.

I know just how important it is to have someone who will listen to your concerns and bring them to the Academic Staff Assembly. As a lifelong believer in the democratic process, I know how important it is to have a voice, and I would be honored to serve you all as the District 424 Representative to the Academic Staff Assembly.
