Liaison Reports
Nola Walker reported that the Librarians’ Assembly had their first meeting in over a year and is working on priorities to best represent the needs of staff.
Donna Cole reported that the School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH) CASI has a new committee chair. The timeline for the SMPH dean search was discussed and Donna shared that ASEC will ask the SMPH CASI for a representative to attend the shared governance sessions with finalists.
Guest: Charles Isbell, Provost
Provost Isbell shared a professional development experience and expressed the importance of gathering groups with different backgrounds and perspectives to have the best results in various arenas of work.
Guest: Patrick Sheehan, Chief Human Resources Officer; Karen Massetti-Moran, Deputy Chief Human Resources Officer, Office of Human Resources
The Office of Human Resources (OHR) is working on processes for considering the addition and removal of titles from the Title and Standard Job Description Library, as the needs for job titles change over time. Any changes will require the review and approval from all Universities of Wisconsin universities. OHR hopes to have processes in place by the summer of 2024.
Regarding the needs for employee childcare, OHR hopes to work with the Committee for Women in the University on potential solutions and will connect the Equity, Inclusion and Employee Well-Being Office in OHR with the Office of Child Care and Family Resources in the School of Education.
ASEC shared some concerns about school/college/division processes and transparencies around salary increases for employees. OHR will work with ASEC on potential next steps.
Guests: Haley Rogers, Strategic Initiatives Analyst, Office of Finance and Administration; Paul Seitz, Director of Strategic Initiatives, Office of Finance and Administration (Administrative Quality Satisfaction Survey)
On April 9, 2024, an administrative quality satisfaction survey will be sent to all faculty and staff, including graduate student employees, in six languages. The survey will be open until April 30, 2024. This follows an administrative quality satisfaction survey sent to employees in 2022.
The 2024 survey will ask about administrative barriers in key areas such as communications, facilities, finance, general administration, human resources, information technology, and research administration. The purpose of the survey is to identify innovate opportunities to make UW-Madison a great place to work, target potential investments in resources, staffing and training, and understand how employees experience administrative services differently or similarly. The survey will be run by a third-party for confidentiality.
The initial survey results will be available in mid-June and the full results will be available in September. There can also be a presentation of the results to ASEC and the Academic Staff Assembly.
