The meeting was called to order at 2:00 p.m.
The minutes of November 2, 2017, were approved as distributed. General Reports Secretary of the Academic Staff Heather Daniels reported that the Faculty Senate did not vote on an agenda item making selected academic staff who work for government agencies eligible to serve as sole advisors for graduate students. She reported that the Board of Regents passed the plan to merge UW Colleges and Extension with other UW System schools. The Ad Hoc Committee on Title and Total Compensation Academic Staff Communications met for the third time. They discussed how the project was going so far and discussed how to encourage academic staff to attend the upcoming listening session for job families.
Liaison Report Bruno Browning reported that the Personnel Policies and Procedures Committee is working on a new Chapter 16 that would be for Title IX cases.
Motion to Convene in Closed Session Pursuant to Wis. Stats. 19.85(1)(c), and (f) discuss Nomination to Associate Vice Chancellor for Finance Search and Screen Committee. (Stoddard Cameron). Seconded. Approved.
Motion to Convene in Open Session. (Dahlberg). Seconded. Approved.
Business • Nomination Motion to nominate Bonniejean Zitske and Mary Beth Roberts to serve on the Associate Vice Chancellor for Finance Search and Screen Committee. (Shapiro). Seconded. Approved. • December Assembly Agenda There are several items on the December agenda. ASEC plans to ask the Assembly to amend the previous sexual harassment policy (ASA #275) rather than rescind the entire policy. The possibility of a resolution regarding distinguished prefix in the new titling system. • Response to VCRGE Proposal for Research Professor Title ASEC reviewed the letter written by the Ad Hoc Committee on Research Scientist Titles. They discussed whether to send a joint letter or send their own. Motion to approve a revised letter to be sent to Marsha Mailick and Nadine Connor in response to the Research Professor Title proposal from ASEC (Rogers). Seconded. Approved. • November Assembly Agenda ASEC made assignments for who will offer motions on the resolutions at the Assembly meeting on Monday. • Topics for Provost and Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration Provost UW Extension information CIO Search and Screen Committee Dept of Anesthesiology Climate Report Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration New Associate Vice Chancellor for Finance Position Draft Strategic Plan Preparation for Protests/Demonstrations Guests: Marsha Mailick and Nadine Connor, Office of Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Education Marsha Mailick and Nadine Connor discussed the research professor title draft proposal. The University Research Council reviewed the proposal and liked it. They are going to be visiting the University Committee right after Thanksgiving holiday to talk about it. ASEC provided feedback on the proposal.
Guest: Pam Garcia-Rivera, Personnel Policies and Procedures Committee Pam shared that they have had a lot of new members over the last couple years. This last spring, they began working on changes related to Title IX. They have decided to add a new chapter to ASPP rather than integrating the Title IX language into existing chapters. They are also looking at Chapters 6 and 10 with minor changes.
