I am the Director of the L&S Learning Support Services and have been a member of the academic staff for 21 years, serving as an Assembly member for many years, and serving a term on the Nominating Committee. I'm currently co-chair of the Professional Development and Recognition Committee (PDRC).

My professional interests are instructional technology, especially as it applies to foreign language learning. I just completed a term as president of the International Association for Language Learning Technology.

I believe, however, that it is my campus experience and perspective would be of most value to the ASEC. My view is that academic staff are professionals, and over the years I have learned that we earn respect more by what we do than by how well we lobby for it. I've enjoyed serving on the PDRC because we have a chance to encourage real professional development. It's also a pleasure to be part of the effort to recognize some of the many academic staff who help make this university truly great.

If elected to the ASEC, I would continue to look for ways to help academic staff realize their full potential.

Marcia Jezwinski

I'm seeking election for the Academic Staff Executive Committee (ASEC) to fill the term of a recently vacated position. I have been an academic staff member since 1983 and am an Administrative Officer in the Division of Information Technology, in charge of Human Resources. Because of my solid background in HR, compensation and benefits, providing staff training and education and dealing with a large variety of people related issues, my experience would lend itself to the challenges of this committee.

I have served on the PPPC for 12 years and am a member of DoIT CASI and the Equity and Diversity Committee. During the years with the PPPC, we rewrote the Academic Staff Policies and Procedures (ASPP), encouraged more job security, educated academic staff and their managers about the policies and procedures resulting in positive changes in positions. During my years on the PPPC, I served on a joint subcommittee of the CEBC where we recommended and were successful in getting approval for the Administrative Program Manager positions to be moved into a title series so there was more advancement opportunity for them, similar to other academic titles. We also investigated the possibilities of increasing the maxima of the salary ranges for academic titles that better reflected the labor market conditions. Although this isn't a priority during these tough fiscal times, we may want to revisit this in the future.

Through my leadership in DoIT, we now have a new employee benefits orientation during the first week of employment so staff are fully aware of the outstanding benefits available. We also have a continuous education process that updates staff on benefits as they continue to build their years on campus. We provide updates to our managers about a whole gambit of issues, policies, and procedures that affect academic staff and facilitating their success in getting the job done and being recognized for it.

I'm excited about the possibilities of serving on this committee and hope you will vote for me.
