Academic Staff Assembly Document #412
11 May 2009
We Conserve Resolution of the UW-Madison Academic Staff Assembly
Whereas the fiscal year 2006 UW-Madison campus energy cost was $41 million dollars, 24% higher than the year before,
Whereas the UW-Madison We Conserve campaign aims to reduce campus energy consumption and our environmental footprint by 20% by 2010,
Whereas the We Conserve campaign has already saved $5 million in energy costs since April 2006,
Whereas UW Madison academic staff, as part of the important roles they play in research, teaching, academic support and administration, can model environmentally responsible behavior for students, staff, faculty, and community members,
Whereas academic staff can take positive steps, simple to implement, to contribute towards this program, such as turning off lights, computers and other electronic equipment when not in use, recycling, setting thermostats sensibly, closing windows when the air conditioning is on, etc.
Therefore be it resolved that the UW-Madison Academic Staff Assembly fully supports the We Conserve campaign and encourages everyone on campus to take part in the I Pledge Program
