CMDB - Configuration Management Dashboard
This document covers the "Configuration Management Dashboard", which is the dashboard used by the Configuration Manager.
The Configuration Management Dashboard has many searches and widgets that WiscIT users will find useful.
Find the Dashboard
After logging into WiscIT, go up to the top, click "Dashboards":
- Choose Dashboard Manager;
- Highlight Global/DoIT Dashboards on the left; then
- Select "Configuration Management Dashboard" on the right, and double-click or highlight and click "OK".
Configuration Management Dashboard
The dashboard has 4 main sections: CMDB (Light Blue), Searches (Dark Blue), Work (Yellow), and Other Dashboards (Green):
- CMDB By Type
- This section shows everything in the CMDB that is NOT Uninstalled/Decommissioned, by ConfigurationItemTypeName, or Type.
- Filters - there are 3 filters at the top: Mine, Theirs (someone else), and Team (select a team).
- Your mileage may vary - Certain CIs are restricted: PCI, Select Agent, and Telephony CIs are only available to those with credentials; this includes View rights, so the numbers of CIs one sees here will be different, for example, for someone with a DoIT Standard security group.
- Searches
- DoIT Service Catalog - All Planned, Staging, or Operational Technical Services.
- Search Configuration Item - this is an all-field search.
- CIs in Service...? - This displays those CIs on a Technical Service's Member CIs tab. They are the assets comprising the service, typically servers, databases, storage devices, and the like. A CI has the inverse tab, Service CIs.
- Service Problems - Problems tied to a service, Root Cause.
- CIs in Problem #...? - This displays those CIs on a Technical Service's Problems tab.
- CIs in Change #...? - This displays those CIs on a Technical Service's Changes tab.
- Title Search - some words used in SQL, IP Address Titles, and other edge cases necessitate searching for a CI on Title only.
- UDDS (All) - find a CI by UDDS, irrespective of Lifecycle.
- UDDS (Operational) - find a CI by UDDS that is Operational.
- MAC - search by MAC Address.
- Serial # - find a CI by serial number.
- Asset Tag ID - find a CI by Asset Tag ID.
- CIs Owned by Team...? - The Owner of a CI is the Primary Administrator. This search lists them all.
- Team Memberships - look up a WiscIT Team and its members.
- User's Team Memberships - look up a User's Teams.
- User's Technologist Responsibilities - this button, and the search output, User's Responsibilities, shows Primary and Secondary (Backup) Administrators for a CI.
- UserInfo (Officer) Search - search on all Users (Officers) in WiscIT.
- All WiscIT Users (Officers) - the same information as above, in table form.
- Customer (Stakeholder) Search - search on all Customer (Stakeholder) records in WiscIT.
- Work - Current User
- Except for the Approval section, all output is set to the Current User viewing the dashboard.
- My Change/Problem Tasks - work assigned to your teams, whether you own them or not, from Changes or Problems.
- My Incidents
- As Customer
- As Technologist
- WiscIT DEV - link to the WiscIT DEV dashboard, for requesting, reviewing, and assigning development tasks for WiscIT.
- My Dev Tasks - WiscIT developers may have open tasks.
- My Service Request/Incident Tasks - work assigned to your teams, whether you own them or not, from Service Requests and Incidents.
- All Pending Approvals - Change Request Approvals (the Configuration Manager backs up the Change Manager).
- Other Dashboards
- This section lists other dashboards of interest:
- Users - Users, or Officers (Technologists, etc.) in WiscIT, by Department and/or UDDS.
- CMDB - Audit - This dashboard includes statistics of interest to the Configuration Manager.
- Warranty (with KB) - Dell Warranty Maintenance Contracts, and their related CIs, are displayed here.
- Agreements/Contracts (with KB) - Agreements, like the aforementioned Dell Warranty Contracts, are listed here and related to CIs. All CIs have an Agreements tab, showing related Agreements. Filters on the dashboard allow one to review one's own Agreements more easily.
- Software - Qualys Cloud Agent information is federated in to WiscIT. Use this dashboard to search for software.
- Security Scans - review Qualys Security Scan information.
- History-Vulnerabilities - Qualys integration and PIT longitudinal data.
- Services by Technologist (with KB) - Services in WiscIT, by their Technologists's Department or Group.
- Service Details - for any service, CI breakdown, a list of Member CIs, age of assets (proxied by CI creation time), and inter-service dependencies. Filters exist for Servers, Teams, and Owner.
- Improvements/Reviews - the output of PIR and TTX efforts.
- SNCC Combined - 24/7 Staff dashboard.
- Change/Problem Manager View - the Change/Problem Manager's dashboard.
- Outage Calendar - the WiscIT Outage calendar; the DoIT Outage Page is a subset (this includes all outages across all outage pages, including MUFN, FPM, NTN-ND, and BoreasNet).
- Safer Badgers
- Problem Management - review Problems by Department, Service or Team. Filter on Timeframe, or with Outages.
- Problems over Time
- Problems Incident Analysis - All Problems by All Services, by Departments, by Teams as well with an Incident Widget reflecting Help Desk activity.
- Forecasts-Problem Trends for DoIT (with KB) - use OLS (Ordinary Least Squares) or Linear Regression Analysis, to forecast Problem Trends for DoIT, by timeframe, COOP Tier, Department, or some CI types.
- Forecasts-Problem/Change Trends by Service - use OLS to forecast Problems and Changes by Service.
- History - Outages/Changes/Problems
- Service Impact - Root Cause Outage (with KB) - for any service, Planned and Unplanned Service Impact counts and percentages.
