UHS - Add Network Printer to a PC

Customer needs to have a network printer added. (Audience: UHS)

Printers are generally automatically added via group policy based on the customer's location. ***If they are requesting RX(prescription Printers)  -DO NOT ADD - "If a Rx device is being requested, do not add the device, instead send it to the onsite support staff at UHS to vet if it should be added for the provider asking"  

Method 1: Manually Adding Printers

  1. Click the Start button in the lower left corner.
  2. Type \\print02 and hit Enter.
  3. On the window that appears you have two options to search for the printer you want to add:
    1. Scroll through the list to find the desire printer(s).
    2. Closer to the upper right side of the window there is a search box to enter the printer by name (ie: P00184).
  4. Once you have located the printer you want to add, right-click on it and select Connect.
  5. A processing dialogue box will come up, when it disappears the printer has been successfully added to your view.
  6. If a copier code is needed, see KCS Article 1786 - Adding Printers that Require A Copier Code.

Method 2: Adding Printers via the Settings App

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Click Devices.
  3. Click Printers and scanners.
  4. Click Add a printer or scanner.
  5. See if the desired printer shows up in the list. If so, click it and click Add Device (you are now finished). If not, scroll to the bottom of the list and click The printer that I want isn't listed.
  6. Method 1
    1. Check the Find a printer in the directory, based on location or feature radio button and click Next.
    2. Find the printer and click OK.
    3. May need to enter admin credentials to install printer driver.
  7. Method 2
    1. Check the Select a shared printer by name radio button.
    2. In the box type in \\print02 and you should now be able to browse all of the printers on the print server.
    3. Select the printer and click OK.
    4. May need to enter admin credentials to install printer driver.
  8. The printer should be now mapped either from Step 5, Method 1, or Method 2. Repeat this process for any additional printers.
