Referrals - Microsoft Copilot (Formerly Bing Chat for Enterprise)
This document describes the referral process for Microsoft Copilot and Copilot for Microsoft 365.
Background
There are multiple Microsoft products titled as "Copilot". Microsoft Copilot (formerly Bing Chat for Enterprise) is a separate product from Copilot for Microsoft 365.
- Microsoft Copilot (formerly Bing Chat for Enterprise) is available to all UW-Madison users with an active NetID.
- Copilot for Microsoft 365 is not a feature enabled in the UW-Madison tenant.

Support
- Microsoft Copilot support is changing rapidly. Currently, the DoIT Help Desk can provide best-effort support.
- Refer all callers to the Microsoft Copilot entry on the DoIT Services page. They have links to Microsoft documentation.
- Copilot for Microsoft 365 is not part of UW-Madison's Microsoft 365 license. Refer customers directly to Microsoft.
- Log the WiscIT as Microsoft 365 --> General --> Microsoft Apps.
- After referring the customer, set the ticket to RESOLVE to ensure the ticket does not get forwarded to other groups.
License Support
Copilot for Microsoft 365 is not part of UW-Madison's Microsoft 365 license. If a customer has an issue with licensing for Microsoft Copilot:
- Provide basic browser troubleshooting.
- Attempt to activate missing services: NetID - Activating Missing Services (Email, M365 Services, Box, etc.).
- If still seeing issues, escalate using Microsoft 365 --> General --> Microsoft Apps.
