WHC Overview
NOTE as of 6\10\2025 WHC has been off boarded from any DoIT support. Their server/domain controller has been demoted. All data was backed up to external HDDs, one of which will be backed up to sharepoint by UW Systems for future retrieval. The other copy of the data was given to Michael Kean as another backup. Their remaining computers were also backed up. Computers still in use by their department were given local admin accounts. The rest of the computers were decommissioned by GDS. Local admin and the built-in admin account credentials have been stored in 1password under Computer Administration (WHC). The information contained in this document pertains to their environment before it was decommissioned.
Wisconsin Humanities Council (WHC) is located close to campus on Regent Street in a building shared with several other organizations. This group is not UW-affiliated and so does not use campus IP space, Active Directory, DNS, or DHCP, but receives a single external static IP address from a private ISP. User accounts are authenticated against an in-house Active Directory domain controller, which also serves as a file and print server, DHCP server and DNS server. They also have a separate Filemaker Pro server that is not administered by DS. Email is handled by UWSA - https://kb.uwss.wisconsin.edu/103121
