DoIT Departmental Support - Connecting to a Shared Drive (Windows and Mac OS)
This document details how to connect to a shared folder or drive.

Note: If you are connecting from a campus wireless or home network, you must first connect to WiscVPN before following the steps below:
- Open File Explorer and select "This PC".
- Click the "Map Network Drive" button in the ribbon menu at the top, then select "Map Network Drive" (under the Computer tab).
- Enter the path to the shared printer.
- Ensure that the "Reconnect at Logon" box is checked.
- Click "Connect using a different user name".
- Enter the necessary user credentials.
- The new printer will be listed under "This PC".
- Click "OK" and "Finish".
Mapping Network Drives on macOS
Note: If you are connecting from a campus wireless or home network, you must first connect to WiscVPN before following the steps below:
- Open Finder.
- Click "Go" and then "Connect to Server".
- Enter the server address for the network printer, and then click "Connect".
- If the server address is given in Windows format, modify it as follows: replace the two backslashes at the beginning with "smb://" and replace the remaining backslashes with forward slashes. (e.g. //server.ad.wisc.edu/shared becomes smb://server.ad.wisc.edu/shared)
- When prompted, enter the appropriate username and password.
- If you are using your NetID, enter "<netid>@wisc.edu" as the username.
- Click "Connect".
