Microsoft 365 - Request access to account data
There are times where an account is either going through account deactivation process, is already disabled, or data to the account is being requested by the owner/colleague.
Important: If the user is questioning why their account is going through deactivation or is already deactivated and they think they should not be deactivated, please follow steps outlined in Microsoft 365 - What should I expect when I am no longer a Faculty, Staff, or Student?.
Owner of the account is making the request
If the account is active, have the owner access the account. If the account is deactivated, follow steps within Microsoft 365 - What should I expect when I am no longer a Faculty, Staff, or Student?.
Someone other than the owner is making the request
If the account in question is still active, they will need to contact the owner of the account - the owner can grant them the necessary permissions to access the account.
If the account is disabled or access to the account data is being requested by another person - escalate the case to Cybersecurity team (Security-BADGIRT queue) - they will ask for the required approval (user's HR office or Dean/Director). If approved, they will provide the data to the requester.
Internal Notes
Important: for PCS Doc&Support and TechTeam staff
- We do not have the ability to change visibility of NetID account - this is controlled by FERPA and Manifest affiliation
- Example - if security wants to gain access (say full mailbox permissions) via any Outlook client to a NetID account that is set to hidden in the GAL - there is no way for us to do this
