UW Theme 2.0 Migration - FAQ

Commonly asked questions about the migration to UW Theme 2.0 have been answered in the document below.

General migration questions

Plugin questions

Are vendor plugins compatible with the WordPress Gutenberg editor?

The block editor has been available for several years. Therefore, most vendor plugins are already compatible. However, custom WiscWeb plugins (like UW Events and UW Publications) may require some migration effort.

Will vendor plugin data come over in the migration?

Yes, we believe that vendor content should move over and work as expected. However, some plugins won't be accommodated in UW Theme 2.0. Check the Service Changes KB doc for more info: UW Theme 2.0 Migration - WiscWeb service changes

Will WiscWeb plugins migrate?

This will depend on the plugin. We have to rebuild custom WiscWeb plugins for use with UW Theme 2.0 and it is not guaranteed that these will be available when you start to migrate. We will attempt to keep users informed of any known barriers or issues with plugins. Please check the Element Conversion table to learn if your plugin has already been accommodated.

 Troubleshooting questions

I'm getting an "Updating Failed" message. What's happening?

Why isn't my content aligning as expected?

It is extremely difficult to honor alignment for things like headings, images, and text in our migration tooling. Therefore, this will have to be manually re-set when you migrate the content.

Why is my embedded content overflowing the container?

If the embedded content - like a YouTube video - is overflowing the container, you may need to:

  1. Select the Stack block

  2. Switch it to a Group block

Why does my text content look weird? Why is it migrating to an HTML block?

In most cases, the reason is likely because there was some inline HTML in the source code of the old Text Block. This likely means the content has migrated into an HTML block rather than a Paragraph block.

Here's some options for next steps:

Option 1

  1. Copy the text in the HTML block

  2. Paste it into a Paragraph block (this should strip out the code)

Option 2

  1. Go to the Preview tab

  2. Copy the content

  3. Create a new paragraph block and paste in that content

Why is my page title narrower than the rest of the content on the page?

By default, page titles will show in a narrower view. But sometimes, this looks odd alongside wider content. If you wish for your page titles to align with that wider content, you can select the Title block in the List View, hover over it, and choose the wide width alignment.

Why is my text randomly being underlined?

If you had copied and pasted content into your existing UW Theme Classic site, there might be some inline styling that got carried over which creates underlines in the migration process. Here’s how you would work around this:

Option 1

  1. Select the related Paragraph block in the List View

  2. Click the 3 dot icon

  3. Choose “edit as HTML”

  4. Clean out the unwanted code

Option 2

Just manually rebuild this content.

Why are my images aligning on the front end but not in the editor view?

This is likely because the content has been migrated into a Stack block. Here's how to fix it:

  1. Select the Stack block in the List View

  2. Change the alignment to Center

Why is my page title showing with a white background but the other content has a gray background?

In UW Theme Classic, there was an option to have your entire site use a light gray background. Since content layout rows alternate between white and gray, this "zebra striping" always started with gray and switched to white.

In UW Theme 2.0, there is not an option to have your entire site use the light gray background. Therefore, the zebra striping will start with a white background and then switch to gray.

If you do not like the zebra stripes, these can easily be removed by:

  1. Select the Group block in the List View
  2. In the right sidebar, make sure the Block tab is selected
  3. Scroll down to the Visibility Settings and find the Color settings box
  4. Select the Background label
  5. Choose Clear

Why do I have empty space at the bottom of my page?

This is likely because you had an empty content layout row on your old site. The migration tooling will not strip this out and it likely carried over as a empty block in UW Theme 2.0.

If that content is not needed, simply select the block in the List View and delete it.

Why are my form styles looking weird?

In UW Theme 2.0, there are only styles applied to Gravity Forms forms that use the new Orbital theme. If you're seeing any styling issues, it's a good indicator that your forms are not using the latest Gravity Forms theme.

To adjust this:

  1. Navigate to Forms > Settings in your migrated site
  2. Scroll down to the Default Form Theme section
  3. Switch from "Gravity Forms 2.5 Theme" to "Orbital Theme (Recommended)"
  4. Scroll down and select Save Settings
