Course Proposal Policy
Process for proposing a new course or making modifications to an existing course.
Instructors who wish to propose a new course, or modifications to an existing one, must confer with at least two colleagues in the department. They may then submit a draft proposal, indicating the colleagues with whom they conferred, a week before the next CPC meeting. In AY 2020–21, CPC meets first and third Thursdays, so draft proposals should be submitted by the second or fourth Thursday to be considered that month.
Assuming that CPC approves the proposal, the instructor may submit it in Lumen. If CPC does not approve the proposal, the instructor may appeal the decision at the next EC meeting, which generally takes place on the first Tuesday of the month. If the EC overturns CPC’s decision, the instructor may then submit the proposal in Lumen. Otherwise, the proposal cannot advance. Please be aware that it generally takes 6-8 weeks between the time the proposal is approved by the department and the time the course is entered in SIS and is ready for scheduling.
