Program Proposal Policy

Process for proposing a new program or modifying an existing program.

Instructors who wish to propose a new program, or modifications to an existing one, must confer with at least two colleagues in the department. They may then submit a draft proposal, indicating the colleagues with whom they conferred, a week before the first CPC meeting of the month. In AY 2020–21, CPC meets second and fourth Thursdays, so draft proposals should be submitted by the first Thursday to be considered that month.

Assuming that CPC approves the proposal, it will go to a vote at the next EC meeting, which generally takes place on the first Tuesday of the month. If CPC does not approve the proposal, the instructor may also appeal the decision at the same EC meeting. Either way, if the EC endorses the proposal, the instructor may then submit it in Lumen. Otherwise, the proposal cannot advance. Please be aware that L&S only considers program changes twice a year.

Instructors should consider reviewing this site for the timeline and the meeting schedule outside of ALC: Instructors are also advised to review successful proposals from colleagues in ALC; CPC has some available on request.
