Associated Students of Madison KnowledgeBase : Student Council Meeting: April 10

The Associated Students of Madison Student Council met for the last time of the 25th Session on Wednesday, April 10 at 6:30 p.m. in the Student Activity Center Hearing Room. The agenda and other relevant materials can be found here.

To begin the meeting, the Recreational Sports Director John Horn, Associate Director of Strategic Engagement & Wellbeing Alex Peirce and Assistant Director of Wellbeing Abby Diehl spoke to the group about the Natatorium Building project, the third of four projects within the UW-Madison Recreational Sports Master Plan. This new project plans to engage students in every step along the process.

Specifically, students will be involved in the design of the “new Nat” and the amenities that will be included. Students will be engaged through small-group discussion, online surveys and listening sessions. On April 23 and 25, students are welcome to attend the listening sessions at Dejope Residence Hall and Gordon Dining Hall, respectively, at 6:30 p.m.

Soon, Rec Sports will change its name to “University Recreation and Well-Being,” something part of an overall strategy to improve inclusivity. The vision of this new brand is “to build a movement of healthy habits through inclusion, education, innovation and connection.”

“FY20 Segregated Fee Allocation” was introduced by Student Activity Center Governing Board Chair Jordan Pasbrig, highlighting that there will be further negotiations with ASM and UW-Madison administration regarding the UHS fiscal year 2020 budget. As of now, the entire segregated fee allocation is $58,220,446.42. The legislation passed unanimously.

“SAC Governing Board Space Allocation” was also introduced by Chair Pasbrig, an official allocation for the office spaces for the 2019-2020 academic year. The legislation passed unanimously.

“Campus Radio Station Fund and ASM Administrative Budgets Bylaw Update” was brought to Student Council for its second vote. The legislation passed unanimously.

“SSFC Bylaw Update” was brought to council for its second vote and passed unanimously.

Additionally, “Nominations Board Bylaw Revision” was brought to Council for its last vote. This piece of legislation also passed unanimously.

The last piece of legislation, “Show Me Your Dance Grant,” was proposed by Grant Allocation Committee Chair Becca Graven. The Grant Allocation Committee Policies and Procedures state that if an event grant is over two percent of the total event grant budget, it requires the approval of student council. The rules were suspended to debate and vote on the legislation for its first appearance.

Chair Graven amended the legislation for the “Show Me Your Dance” event grant to be approved for a total of $4,627.71. The amendment and legislation both passed unanimously.

ASM’s 26th Session Student Council will meet for the first time on April 24 at 6:30 p.m. in the SAC Hearing Room.
