ASM Student Council Holds First Summer Meeting of 29th Session
MADISON, WI — On Wednesday, May 25th the Associated Students of Madison Student Council met for the first meeting of the summer schedule. On the agenda was the proposed Ratification of the University of Wisconsin System Student Government Association (UWS SGA) Constitution, necessary bylaw changes to the ASM Constitution regarding the UWS SGA, and procedures for the selection of students to the Association of Big Ten Schools (ABTS) Summer Conference.
The UWS SGA is proposed as a representative body for all UW System universities. The previous 28th session of ASM discussed and passed legislation calling for a statewide student government body to represent the UW System in October of 2021.1
Legislative Affairs Chair MGR Govindarajan delivered a presentation regarding the UWS SGA to the 29th session and encouraged the Student Council to support the ratification of the body’s Constitution. Chair Govindarajan also introduced the bylaw amendments necessary in the event the UWS SGA Constitution is ratified. Voting on the ratification of the UWS SGA Constitution, as well as the approval of the proposed bylaw amendments, will occur at the next Student Council meeting on June 8th.
The Student Council also discussed procedures related to the selection of UW-Madison students applying to attend the ABTS Summer Conference. These procedures, which will be undertaken by the ASM Conference Selection Committee, were approved by unanimous consent. The conference will occur on the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus from June 24th to June 26th. The application for the ABTS conference is open to all UW-Madison students, and will be available until June 10th. The application can be found here.
The next summer Student Council meeting will be on June, 8th 2022 at 6:30 p.m. via Zoom.
