ASM Student Council Reviews UW Lobbying Day, Bylaw Updates
MADISON, WI — The Associated Students of Madison Student Council met on Wednesday, February 22nd on Zoom to discuss updates to ASM bylaws and review UW Lobbying Day. The Student Council also held a moment of silence for Chancellor Emerita Rebecca Blank, as well as viewing Michigan State University’s alma mater to remember victims of the February 13th MSU campus violence.
New business included Legislative Affairs Chair MGR Govindarajan providing an overview of UW Lobbying Day, which occurred on Wednesday the 22nd as well. Chair Govindarajan highlighted the successes of the event, including the participation of many UW campuses and students. Students were able to meet with the governor, bipartisan legislators, and representatives from the Joint Finance Committee. Chair Govindarajan also gave updates to the Student Council on Governor Tony Evers’ State of the State Address & Biennial Budget.
Representatives from the ad-hoc Rules Committee introduced legislation that seeks to update and modernize the ASM bylaws. The suggested updates have been reviewed over the past year by the Rules Committee to ensure efficiency of ASM processes. This legislation was tabled until the next Student Council meeting.
The ASM Student Council candidate declaration form is due this Friday. If you are interested in becoming a Student Council representative for the 2023-2024 academic year, and will be an eligible UW-Madison student at the time of spring elections, please enter your candidacy here.
The next Student Council meeting will be on Wednesday, March 8th at 6:30 p.m. at 333 East Campus Mall.
