ASM Passes First Round of Approval for the FY25 Internal Budget
MADISON, WI — This Wednesday, November 29th the Student Council met for the first in a series of two back to back weekly meetings before the upcoming Winter Intersession. The meeting entailed an initial approval of the ASM FY25 Internal Budget, new appointments of Student Council representatives, and more.
The ASM FY25 Internal Budget was passed in its first round by the Student Council which will now move on to be reviewed by the Student Services Finance Committee. Major updates to the budget include a fund increase of $20,000 for Support for Students for Disabilities for RSO Engagement. Additional changes were made in response to the end of the COVID-19 pandemic, such as the reduction of expected grant savings by $75,000.
New appointments of Student Council representatives include College of Engineering Rep. Divyansh Gupta and School of Nursing Rep. Ashley Hagan. There were also two appointments to ASM’s Student Judiciary, Representatives Carter Mickelson and Daniel Araya were appointed as Associate Justices with unanimous consent.
Following these appointments, Legislative Affairs Chair Kelsee Crogan introduced legislation on Support for the Engineering Building Construction. The legislation endorses ASM’s support for the construction in addition to calling upon the state legislature to provide the funding for its expansion. The construction would open up space for 1,000 more students into the College of Engineering. This legislation was passed by unanimous consent and can be viewed here.
Further business included approving 3 bills in which RSOs were granted over 2% of the ASM Travel Grant budget line by the Grant Allocation Committee. All were passed under unanimous consent. Grant Allocation Committee Chair Amaya Boman also introduced legislation to amend the necessary secondary approval of the Student Council for these grants, as required in the ASM Constitution.
Lastly, a new ASM General Feedback Form was authorized and approved by the Student Council through unanimous consent after requests and changes were made in previous meetings. This form allows students to ask questions, or provide comments and concerns to ASM members which aims to better inform our efforts and initiatives as representatives of the student body.
The next Student Council meeting will be on Wednesday, December 6th at 6:30 p.m. in the Hearing Room on the 4th Floor of the Student Activity Center at 333 East Campus Mall.
