WSB Student Laptop Recommendations

WSB ITS's recommended specifications for a Business Students Laptop

There are several laptop types and brands that are on the market and the choice of which one best suits your requirements vary.  Some may opt for more portable characteristics, e.g. size and battery life, while others may trade for different performance characteristics, like a larger display.  Keep in mind that the device you purchase may be with you your entire academic career.  Also consider your current computing needs and do a little forecasting about what's next and what your higher level coursework may require in terms of system capabilities.

System recommendations.  WSB recommends that undergraduates invest in systems that are performance focused and run Windows.  Not all applications necessary for the curricula at WSB can be installed on MacOS, and a Windows laptop is strongly recommended.  For graduate programs, applications used in course work are less operating system dependent.  If you have an Apple system and need to run Windows, you can follow the instructions here to install a virtual machine software titled Parallels.

Software.  WSB recommends installing Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) from the Campus Software Library and any specific course required software will be communicated through course syllabi.  If you have questions related to specific course software prior to the course start, please contact the course instructor.

Support.  For support, please visit DoIT's helpdesk page for more information.  This is a campus-based service supported by DoIT and they staff skilled technologists that create helpful knowledge base articles as well as offer walk-in support at their 1210 Dayton St. location.
