Mounting a Network Drive by Specifying Username (macOS)
This document describes how to specify your personal NetID and password in order to authenticate to and mount the Biochemistry Shared Drive or ResearchDrive.
Potential Problem
There may be an issue with mounting the Biochemistry Shared Drive when logged into an Apple computer with a local or AD administrator account. When logged into this account, you may not be prompted for a username and password, resulting in a permissions or connection error.
Example Error Message
"There was a problem connecting to the server 'biochem.drive.wisc.edu'. There are no shares available or you are not allowed to access them on the server. Please contact your system administrator to resolve the problem."
Specifying a Username in the Network Drive Address
- Open Finder
- Open the Go menu and choose Connect to Server... or use the keyboard shortcut ⌘ + K
- Instead of entering the server address alone, specify your NetID by entering the following: smb://NETID:*@ADDRESS (insert your own NetID)
Examples: smb://pjturner3:*@biochem.drive.wisc.edu or smb://pjturner3:*@research.drive.wisc.edu - Click Connect
- You should now be prompted for your NetID and password
