Student Council hears from Associate Vice Chancellor Rodriguez, debates multiple pieces of legislation and finalizes bylaw changes
MADISON, Wis. — At last Wednesday night’s meeting, Student Council heard from Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Success and Belonging Dr. Fernie Rodriguez, debated various pieces of legislation and finalized bylaw changes approved in earlier meetings.
First up on the agenda was Dr. Rodriguez, who made an opening statement to the council. Representatives asked questions about the structure of student support services, communication of changes and more.
In addition, several pieces of legislation were presented later to the council, including support for revisiting a sexual assault campus climate survey. According to the legislation, no survey of similar size and scope to one conducted in 2019 has been administered since. The measure passed.
Legislation supporting the preservation of library and campus department resources set for disposal was postponed indefinitely, which means that it will not appear on future agendas, and a resolution opposing the demolition of the Mosse Humanities Building failed.
Two bylaw changes initially proposed at past Student Council meetings were voted on for the second time: the creation of a Graduate & Professional Committee and Student Judiciary bylaw changes, which added additional general counsel positions to assist with the workload. Both measures passed and are now official.
The meeting concluded with shared governance appointments and reports. The full meeting minutes are available here. The meeting notes have not yet been formally approved, so changes could still be made.
The next Student Council meeting will be held on March 18 at 6:30 p.m. in the Student Activity Center Hearing Room on the fourth floor. The agenda for this meeting will be available here closer to the meeting.
