Web Publishing

General Information

Publishing to the Botany webserver is fairly quick and easy. You need to contact Botany IT to get a username and password if you don't already have one. In addition, you may need a directory created on the server for your content.

There are numerous programs for publishing your content to the server beyond those listed below and you are free to use any of them. However, providing documentation for all available options is impractical so I've just chosen some of the more popular ones to document below.

One important thing to remember is that you're manipulating the content on the web server directly. Any changes you make will be immediately visible.

If you plan on using or generating dynamic content on the webserver, you might also be interested in the currently installed software.

On a Macintosh

Unless you've already created your site in iWeb or DreamWeaver, or unless you plan on creating your site in iWeb or DreamWeaver, your best choice is Fetch. It will give you the most flexibility of authoring environments.

On a PC

Unless you've already created your site in DreamWeaver or you plan on doing so, your best choice is SecureFX. It will give you the most flexibility of authoring environments.
