Accessing the Botany File Server on Windows XP: Initial Setup

Initial Configuration

You will only have to go through these steps once per computer. Once you've completed them, you shouldn't need to reference them again.

Click on the Start menu. Choose the Control Panel entry on the right-hand side of the menu.

Open the User Accounts control panel.

Click on the username that you use if you're presented with a choice.

Click on Manage my network passwords in the upper left-hand corner of the window.

Click on the Add button.

Fill in the Logon Information Properties dialog box that appeared with the following information. If you don't know what to use for Username and Password, please contact Botany IT.

  • Server: \\warehouse.botany.wisc.edu
  • Username: BOTANY\your_username_here
  • Password: Your password here.

Click on the OK button. You may get a warning about changing a domain password. If you get that warning, you should go ahead and change the domain password. You should now see an entry like the following in the list.

Click on the Close button. You can then close the User Accounts control panel.
