Design:
There are many guides to poster design on the web. These resources are a good way to start thinking about what's important and what will work best for you:


Software Tutorials:
  • Lynda.com (through DoIT) *highly recommended*
    Lynda.com offers excellent video tutorials for nearly every well-known graphics program (as well as some photography tutorials) - and DoIT has made it free for UW-Madison students, facutly and staff.

Logos:
Don't use low resolution logos when there are quality high-resolution logos to be had! If you need the logo for an institution, try searching for a high-resolution or PDF version rather than copying the tiny low-resolution logo from the website header. Many institutions have logos for print along with a usage policy somewhere on their website. Below are a few resources for print-resolution versions of common logos:
