Office 365 - Alternatives to Attaching Large Files
Sharing a large file instead of sending it as an attachment is useful because it saves space and prevents slow delivery time for those with slow connections. DoIT offers two storage solutions that provide an excellent alternative to sending large files as email attachments: UW-Madison Box and Google Drive. See step-by-step instructions below.
UW-Madison Box is a cloud-based file storage and collaboration service. UW-Madison Box users are able to upload individual files as large as 50GB but actual upload size may be limited by the storage quota of the account.
- Log in to UW-Madison Box with your NetID and password
- UW-Madison Box - File Size Limit
- Upload the file to Box
- Creating a shared link to your file
- Copy the link to your email message
Repeat the steps above with each large file you need to share. Then, add any other relevant content to the email and send as usual. When your recipients visit this URL, they will be able to view or download the file
Google DriveUW-Madison Google Apps provides you access to Google Drive, Google's cloud storage service. Files uploaded to Google Drive through UW-Madison Google Apps are covered under an educational license. UW-Madison's Terms of Services can be found here. UW-Madison Google Drive offers unlimited storage.
