Windows 10 Start Menu

The start menu will give you access to all the programs and your filespace in the computer.

When first opened, there will be a handful of default icons that can be quickly launched, as well as quick access to the CAE icon, which will allow you to sign out from the computer. In addition, if clicked on the CAE icon, you should be able to change your account settings or lock your computer when needed . Some of the available programs are listed alphabetically and also can be found under "Course Software".

Course Software

The folder "Course Software" can be found under the alphabet C since they are all arranged alphabetically.

Pinning programs to the start menu

By right-clicking on a program, you can select the option to either pin it to the taskbar or pin it to the start menu. Programs pinned to the start menu will appear as stacked icons which are faster to find than searching through all the alphabets. Icons can be unpinned in a similar way: just right-click the program and select "Unpin from Start" or "Unpin from taskbar".

Your Filespace

If you want to quickly reach your files, just open File Explorer by clicking on the folder located on the taskbar. You should be able to see your username under "This PC", which will take you to your CAE filespace.

Jump Lists

If you right click on a program either in the start menu or from the taskbar, you can access a list of commonly used files (under "Recent") by that program when applicable.

Windows Search

In order to do a quick search from the start menu, you can press windows+s (windows key plus the s key) from your keyboard in order to find files and programs. The search function in windows 10 is designed to not only look through files on the computer but also external hard drives, flash drives, networked PCs and libraries.

While searching from the start menu, windows will only search a small set of folders. If you are unable to find a file, try opening up file explorer from the taskbar. In the upper-right hand corner of the file explorer, there will be a search box ("Search Quick access"). Using this should provide a more robust search of your files.
