Recast Privilege Manager - Administrator access on computer
Since users can only log into their computer as non-admin, it makes it hard to install certain software, or run certain programs. In the past, some users have been given access to the LAPS password. That has been discontinued for a better product that is much easier to use and has a better user experience. There are a couple of ways you may be allowed to elevate to an admin on your computer, so this KB will touch on all the ways, even if you do not have access to any/all of them.
The first way is by requesting access through your DSP, and having them give you a temporary activation code. There are a few options they may choose to use. They may only allow a single use, or only for a specific amount of time. It will depend on the situation.
The second way is called self-service. You will be given the ability to self-elevate at any time. This is reviewed on a case by case basis on why you need the access.
USAGE
No matter which way you have access, the process is generally the same. Once UAC prompts for admin access, you will need to click on "More choices" near the bottom:
Then choose "Recast Privilege Manager"
Depending on if you have a code or are self-elevating, you will choose different things here. If you hare using a code, choose "Use activation code" from the drop-down menu. If you are self-elevating, choose "Run with Domain Account" and then re-enter your user password. You will also need to input a reason why. All elevations are logged, and having a meaningful reason helps us if we are investigating an account with unusual activity.
