Activation of VPN access
VPN Access
The College of Engineering maintains a dedicated VPN pool to manage access to resources located behind the College of Engineering firewall. This service is referred to as the CoE VPN. Setup instructions are available here: CoE VPN Setup Instructions .
Access eligibility is based on affiliation:
- CoE Faculty and staff: Access is typically granted automatically.
- CoE Graduate students: May request access (opt in).
- CoE Undergraduate students: May request access to the Engineering_Licensing VPN (also known as the Tethered Software VPN) only.
- Students outside the College of Engineering: VPN services are not available, unless enrolled in Engineering courses, which will make them eligible for Engineering Licensing VPN.
A limited-access option called Collaborator Access provides firewall access but does not grant access to other CAE resources.
How to Request or Activate VPN Access
Eligible users may request or activate VPN access through the CAE Account Management portal: https://my.cae.wisc.edu/ .
After signing in, select CAE Forms from the left-side navigation menu.
In the CAE Forms list, select Request VPN Access. This option will only appear if you are eligible for the service.
Selecting Request VPN Access will take you to a page describing the service and allow you to complete the activation request.
This page references the Office of Cybersecurity and the University’s Responsible Use policies. You may review the policies prior to submitting your request:
