Helpful Information for Re-entry

This document contains resources and information for a strong return to campus.
  1. Review and take necessary steps listed on the re-entry checklist from the Office of Admissions and Recruitment.

  2. MyUW is a dashboard for UW-Madison applications that directly support your UW–‍Madison experience. On MyUW, you can access things like Student Center, Course Search & Enroll, your course schedule, and more!

  3. Update your contact information in Student Center

    1. If you have not already, update your contact information in Student Center.

  4. Wiscard

    1. If your Wiscard is expired or you are unable to locate it, visit the Wiscard office after you have enrolled for classes to pick up a new one.

  5. Starfish

    1. Starfish is a tool used to schedule meetings with advisors and some services like CALS Dean on Call.  You can also access Starfish through MyUW.

  6. Course Search & Enroll

    1. Course Search & Enroll is the tool used to search for courses, build a course schedule, enroll in classes, run a DARS report, and put together a degree plan.

  7. Canvas

    1. Canvas is the learning management system used by campus. Almost all of your courses will have their own Canvas page where you will find course information, turn in assignments, and keep track of your current grade. You will get invitations to the Canvas page for your courses before the first day of class.  Be prepared to spend time reviewing these pages to understand how your courses will be structured.

  8. Textbooks

    1. Textbook information can be found in Course Search & Enroll and the Courses widget in MyUW once professors and instructors provide it.  Not all courses require textbooks.

  9. Commuting to campus

    1. All enrolled students receive a free bus pass. You can find information on ordering and using the bus pass here. Parking for students is extremely limited but if you are looking to park on campus, information can be found here.

  10. CALS and campus resources

    1. As you return to campus, please remember to take advantage of resources in CALS and across campus to help you reach your academic and career goals. CALS provides specialized academic, career, and study abroad advising in addition to other resources like Dean on Call. UW-Madison also has a ton of resources to help you achieve success inside and outside of the classroom, check out some of these resources on our Community & Resources webpage. Having trouble finding a resource that you are looking for? Contact your academic advisor for assistance.

After you begin classes, you will start to receive our weekly newsletter eCALS for Students. Please plan to review the newsletter each week for resources and timely information important for all CALS students.
