Adding contacts

Contact lists in Teams are not automatically imported from Outlook, so there are a few different ways of viewing contacts in Teams.

Searching for contacts

If you’re not concerned about having a contact list that you can view at any time, you can search for the contact you’re trying to reach

  • Anywhere in Teams, just search for the user’s name in the bar at the top of teams and click on their name when it pops up
  • This will start a new chat/continue a previous chat.
  • This chat will show up in the Recents tab within the Chat tab

Adding favorites / Creating a contact group

If you’d like a list of contacts to appear within teams, the best option would be to either add favorite contacts, or create a contact group. Both will appear and will remain under the contacts tab within the Chat tab.

  • Adding favorite contacts can be a way to have a group of contacts that you frequently message listed for easier access
  • To add a contact to your favorites, navigate to the Chat tab.
  •  Under recents, you can add a contact a contact to your favorites directly from a chat, by clicking on the three dots next to the chat and clicking “add to favorites”.
  • Under contacts, clicking on the three dots next to Favorites allows you to add contacts directly as well.
  •  Creating a contact group can be done under the Contacts tab within the Chat tab. Here you can click “Create a new contact group”. You can add contacts to this group by clicking on the dots next to the group and clicking “Add a contact to this group”.
