Answers to common questions

Question: When does the SOAR reservation system open?

Answer:

  • For Transfer Students we will begin accepting reservations on at Central Time
  • For Freshmen we will begin accepting reservations on at Central Time
  • For International students we will begin accepting reservations on 

Question: I do not see the SOAR reservation box on My UW. 

Answer: The reservation box is located on the “Welcome” Tab on the left hand side. (If they still can’t find it contact DoIT (264-HELP or helpdesk@doit.wisc.edu) OR students may register for SOAR through the SOAR website: SOAR.wisc.edu. 

Question: Can you give me the dates of SOAR?

Answer: "You will be able to choose your SOAR session date when you make a SOAR reservation. We offer sessions Monday through Friday most weeks of June, July & early August. There are 28 freshmen and 7 transfer students sessions to choose from. One of these transfer sessions is only open to in-system UW students. Because of the variables* that go into making a reservation we cannot give you an exact date."

Question: Variables*?

Answer: Variables include School or College you plan to advise with, or if you are affiliated with certain programs.

Question: Am I eligible to make a SOAR reservation?

Answer:  Staff can determine this for the student in the SOAR reservation system. (student's campus ID or SOAR reservation number will be needed)

  1. Log in to: soar.wisc.edu
  2. Go to SOAR Staff tab
  3. Choose SOAR Registrants from list at left of page
  4. View Student's ISIS Information
    • ADMIT_TYPE = FYR or TRF
    • PROG_ACTION = DEIN or MATR (able to register)
    • PROG_ACTION = ADMT (We have not received enrollment deposit or enrollment confirmation)

Follow up Questions about Enrollment Deposit: A. what is that?, B. where does it need to be sent?  C. It was sent in already?

A. What is the Enrollment Deposit?   - Look at Checklist for Freshman Admitted students #2 Confirm your Enrollment

B. Credit cards are accepted for Enrollment Deposits, direct students to the Student Center

C. Enrollment Deposits that were mailed can take up to two weeks from the date sent to when they are credited to the student's account; unfortunately SOAR staff cannot do anything to speed up the process nor can we create a SOAR reservation for a student until the deposited has been received.

Question: I didn't get that information...

Answer:  Staff can review a student’s SOAR Reservation and Communication History in the SOAR reservation system. (student's campus ID, last name or guest name will be needed)

  1. Log in to: soar.wisc.edu
  2. Go to SOAR Staff tab
  3. Choose SOAR Registrants from list at left of page
  4. View Registration and Communication History
  5. Verify that e-mail address to which SOAR correspondence was sent is a correct & up-to-date address

Question: I am trying to change my SOAR reservation and I am having problems...

Answer:  Staff can review or edit a student’s SOAR Reservation in the SOAR reservation system. (student's campus ID will be needed)

  1. Log in to: soar.wisc.edu
  2. Go to SOAR Staff tab
  3. Choose SOAR Registrants from list at left of page
  4. Edit an Existing Registrant
  5. To get out of a student's Reservation without making any changes, close window without saving.
