CHM Undergrads - Special Applicants
Contents
High School Students/Minors
CHM does not typically hire high school students/minors for any position (mentorship, research, paid, volunteer, internship, etc). There are special requirements for employing minors at UW-Madison.
- The supervisor would need to accompany and monitor the minor any time the minor is in any CHM facility.
- The supervisor and Jane Lambert would be required to show screenshots of any correspondence between the student and CHM staff to the parent/guardian and include the parent/guardian on emails/chats.
- Full requirements: Best Practices for In-Person Programming, Best Practices for Virtual Programming, UW-5040 Minor Protection and Adult Leadership.
- If the supervisor is not willing/able to meet the requirements above, the minor cannot be hired.
If a minor applies for a position at CHM, Jane Lambert would alert the supervisors to these guidelines.

Non-UW Students
CHM rarely accepts non-UW–Madison students. However, in specific and limited circumstances, non-UW students may be accepted if they can contribute for two or more continuous semesters.
Special circumstances for summer-only credit or employment of non-UW students may be considered; however, this is rare, as we give preference to hiring UW students, and it typically takes us longer than one summer to train undergraduates to perform our research.
Non-UW undergraduate students can apply using the CHM Undergraduate Student Application Form.
Volunteers
Undergraduate students are not allowed to volunteer at the Center for Healthy Minds. All work conducted by undergraduates must be performed for credit or pay. Contact Jane Lambert (jane.lambert@wisc.edu) to onboard an undergraduate credit or pay student.
