Loosen the knuckle closest to the legs and rotate the legs into their three positions. The knuckle must be loosened to close the legs.
It is excellent for mounting things in tight spaces and is often used to mount props in the foreground, so it is black to hide more easily. Your other C-stands are 40". They are found in the 659 closets.
