Xsan Troubleshooting
Solutions for common problems with CommArts' Xsan storage area network
The CommArts IMC uses an Apple Xsan storage area network to provide media storage to its video editing workstations. Below are common problems and solutions to issues related to Xsan.
- Xsan not present on desktop
- Multiple Xsan icons present on desktop
- Unable to access the correct course/group folders
Xsan mount issues
If a single gray or blue Xsan icon is not present on the desktop of your workstation, try the following steps on by in order.
- Log out
- Click the Apple menu > Log Out...
- Log back into the workstation.
- Reboot
- Click the Apple menu > Restart...
- Log back into the workstation after it's rebooted.
- Verify your connections
- Check that your thunderbolt and ethernet cables are fully connected.
- [NOTE] This only applies to the following machines:
- 3153: instructor iMac
- 3161: instructor iMac + hamel-01 through hamel-16
- Edit hallway: podcast suite + hamel-33 through hamel-38
- If none of the above worked, please notify the IMC. In a pinch, you can use one of the following links to connect:
- From 3rd floor: smb://commfs-bronson.ad.wisc.edu/Xsan
- From any other floor: smb://commfs-mason.ad.wisc.edu/Xsan
- (Alternatively, use "Command + K" to open the "connect to server" menu and manually type smb://commfs-bronson.ad.wisc.edu into the text field)
