QDrive Troubleshooting

Solutions for common problems connecting to CommArts' QDrive network storage cluster

The CommArts IMC uses a Qumulo storage cluster ("Qdrive") to provide media storage to its video editing workstations.  Below are common problems and solutions to issues related to accessing the Qdrive.

 QDrive not present/not mounted

If blue Courses and Students icons are not present on the desktop of your workstation, try the following steps on by in order.
      1. Log out and back in
        • Click the Apple menu > Log Out...
        • Log back into the workstation.
      2. Do a full restart
        • Click the Apple menu > Shut Down...
        • After 10 seconds, turn the computer back on (button on back left) and log back in
      3. Manually connect to the server
        • In Finder > Go menu (top of screen) > "Connect to Server..."
        • Enter the URL smb://qdrive.commarts.wisc.edu and press "Connect"
        • Repeat for each share you need to connect to (Courses, Students, etc.)
      4. If none of the these strategies work, please alert the IMC in person or via email at imc@commarts.wisc.edu

Look for this icon in the upper left of the desktop, and select Intelligent Hub

In the Hub, go to Apps and select see all.

Elect “run” for  the force restart app.

REMEMBER TO LOG OUT OF ALL APPLICATIONS AND LOG OUT OF THE COMPUTER WHEN FINISHED!

QDrive is mounted, but you are unable to access the correct folder

If the QDrive shares are mounted on the desktop, but you find yourself unable to access the folder(s) associated with your class, group, or student account, try the following steps.

      1. Make sure you are logged into the computer with the correct account. QDrive access is linked to your specific account. You may want to log out and back into your account just to confirm that you are logged in as yourself.
      2. If this does not work, contact your TA or instructor for your course to confirm that you have been properly enrolled in the course and given all the necessary permissions to access class drives.
      3. If your TA or instructor cannot help, please contact the IMC in person or via email at imc@commarts.wisc.edu
