Kaltura - Automatic Human Captioning and Machine Extended Audio Descriptions Enabled [UW-Madison]

As of August 24th, 2026, Kaltura will add human-generated captions and computer-generated extended audio descriptions for all videos based on the following triggers:

If you embed a video in your Canvas course.
If you add a video to the Kaltura Media Gallery in Canvas.
If you change a video’s publication setting in Kaltura MediaSpace from Private to Unlisted or Published.

Current turnaround time for these captions and extended audio descriptions is four days. For more details and to learn about exceptions to this process, refer to this KnowledgeBase document.

In addition to these services, all media that is uploaded to Kaltura will still receive automatic Machine Captions to bridge the gap until human captions are available. You can quickly edit auto captions if you need to.
