Microsoft has just released Office 2000 Service Pack 2 (SP-2) for download. The update is a 8.76 MB single file download that will apply all updates made to Office 2000 components released since Office 2000 Service Release 1. At the bottom of this message is a link to Microsoft announcing SP-2 and describing the problems addressed.

Special considerations for Wisconsin WISC Office 2000 Premium Edition Departmental and Student users:

* WISC Departmental Users

The Office 2000 SP-2 updates are meant to be applied to Office 2000 Service Release 1 (SR-1). Departmental customers who have loaded their workstations from WISC media sets can meet the prerequisites of the SP-2 installation in one of the following ways.

Those who loaded Office 2000 Premium Edition from version one of the WISC installation media or an administrative installation made from that media (Silver CD identified as Disc. Assy. #X04-86061), should install Office 2000 Service Release 1 prior to installing Office 2000 SP-2. If the SR-1 patches have not been applied the SP-2 installation will generate an error message requesting that SR-1 be loaded before SP-2 can continue.

The Office SR-1 patches are available on CD or via a network download. The link to the Office 2000 Service Release 1 download is on the linked page below. The Office 2000 Premium Edition SR-1 CD sets (White CD identified as Disc. Assy. #X05-80571-WISC), are also available for purchase on the WISC Departmental Order Web site https://teller.doit.wisc.edu/msaer/cgi-bin/ms_login_dept.cgi . It is important to note that during the installation of both SR-1 and SP-2 you will be asked for your original Office 2000 Premium CD media or for a network drive mapping to the source of the original installation. Complete installation instructions for Office 2000 Premium Edition SR-1 media sets can be found in the Microsoft Technical Support section of the WISC Web site http://www.wisc.edu/wisc .

Those departmental customers using the new Multilanguage version of Office 2000 should apply the Office 2000 MultiLanguage Pack Service Release 1 and SP-2 for the language you are using.

* WISC Student Users

The Office 2000 SP-2 updates are meant to be applied to Office 2000 Service Release 1 (SR-1). The WISC Student version of Office 2000 Premium Edition must be updated to SR-1 before the SP-2 patches can be applied. Student customers who have loaded from WISC media (Silver CD identified with Part No. x03-80197), should download and install the SR-1 updates from http://officeupdate.microsoft.com prior to downloading and installing Office 2000 SP-2. If the SR-1 patches have not been applied the SP-2 installation will generate an error message requesting that SR-1 be loaded before SP-2 can continue. At this time Microsoft does not plan on updating the Student version of Office 2000 media set to include SR-1. The next major change to the Student version will be the next full release of office sometime next year.

We expect to see more of these Office 2000 service packs released over the coming months. All service packs will require Office 2000 SR-1 to have been installed in advance.
