What's Next: Information for Fall 2013 Applicants
Friday, February 1, 2013
We thank all of our applicants for the strong interest they have shown
in becoming future students at the University of Wisconsin-Madison! Here are a few things to know about what happens next.
How do applicants know if their file is ready to be reviewed?
Once we receive an application, we send an email to acknowledge that it was received and we provide instructions to monitor the receipt of required application materials. Anyone who has applied close to the deadline should closely monitor their status to make sure that all required admissions materials arrive to the Office of Admissions and Recruitment.
Why is a document not showing up in the student portal?
Right now, our office continues to receive transcripts, letters of recommendation, and test scores for students who applied for fall 2013. Students who recently applied should work to have required materials sent to our office.
We acknowledge required materials in the student portal after they are
processed by our mail room. Due to high volume around deadlines, please allow a
minimum of 15 business days to confirm receipt of materials online. Do not send
duplicate copies of materials. We are unable to confirm receipt of materials
that are not required, such as letters of recommendation.
When will students get an admissions decision?
- FRESHMEN
Who applied by: February 1, 2013 Will receive a decision by: March 31, 2013
- TRANSFER STUDENTS
Who applied by: February 1, 2013 Will receive a decision by: April 30, 2013
What are the possible admissions decisions made by our office?
As applications are reviewed, one of the following three admission decisions is made:
- Admit: In 2012, 54.6% of freshman applicants and 42% of transfer applicants were admitted. Students that receive an offer of admission will need to follow the steps outlined on the admitted student checklist to successfully enroll for fall 2013.
- Postpone: These students have the potential for success at UW-Madison. We would like to review their midyear grades, other supporting material, and estimate the available space in the incoming class before making a final decision. Postponed freshman will receive a final decision by the end of March. Transfer students will receive a decision after their final semester grades are reported to our office between May and June. Review the Frequently Asked Questions for Postponed Applicants for more details.
- Deny: Students who are not competitive for admission or who fail to meet our application deadlines are denied admission. Applicants who are denied may want to read more about the programs we offer as pathways to transferring to UW-Madison.
Can a student apply after the February 1st deadline?
Yes. Submit the undergraduate application online. Then email us at applylate@admissions.wisc.edu with a detailed
explanation of why you would like us to review your application beyond
the deadline. Remember to tell us if you are applying as a new freshman or
transfer student.
Still Haven't Heard from Us?
Any freshman applicants who applied by November 1st, who don't yet have a decision, should check the status of their review to be sure their required materials are on file. There is still time to have missing documents sent to our office.
