Due to construction work and new cabling for Witte Hall, residents may experience data, voice, and cable tv network outages from September 10-13.

An explanation of the work follows:

  • Excavation work for this project will start on Friday, September 5.

  • Sometime Wednesday morning (as early as 7:00am), September 10, the video fiber feed to Witte hall will be disconnected and pulled out to the manhole in Johnson Street. The video will be pulled back into Witte and on-line by Friday morning, September 12 (best case scenario) or Saturday morning, September 13 (worst case scenario).

  • Sometime Thursday morning (as early as 7:00am), September 11, the data (resnet and staff computers) and fire alarm reporting fiber feeds to Witte will be disconnected and pulled out to the manhole in Johnson Street. Both data and fire alarm reporting fiber will be pulled back into the building the afternoon or evening of Thursday, September 11. Data fiber will be on-line early morning Friday, September 12 (worst case scenario). Fire alarm fiber will be on-line as soon as possible there after.

  • The power to Witte hall will likely not be interrupted, other than for short periods of time. If short power interruptions are required, they will be coordinated with Housing the week of September 15 so that residents can be notified in advance.

Reason this is being done now: Campus was informed by Johnson Street project representatives just prior to the residence hall opening of a problem with the conduits holding voice, data, video, and power feeds to Witte hall. These feeds were deteriorating and currently in a location that is unacceptable. We were asked to move these feeds and agreed that leaving these feeds in this deteriorated state would only lead to emergency voice, data, video, and power interruptions in the future.
