ECMS - RDS-DEV - Access instructions for ImageNow users during Imaging Patch Testing

This document provides instructions to access the Windows Remote Desktop Service (RDS), specifically the RDS-DEV workstation during ImageNow Patch Testing.

[Doc 8386 content is unavailable at this time.]

RDS-DEV Access for NetID accounts

Interested persons should contact the ECMS/Imaging Team Lead to request RDS-DEV access. The request will be forwarded to the appropriate people who will authorize and enable RDS-DEV access. Please provide full names and NetID's of the people who need RDS-DEV access.  This is a special request because RDS-DEV contains the connection profile to access the ECMS/Imaging TEST environment.

Windows Users:

To connect to RDS-DEV:

  • Confirm you're connected to a campus network, or have a WiscVPN connection active if you're on an off-campus network
  • In the web browser of your choice navigate to https://remotedesktop.doit.wisc.edu
  • Review the security statement, then login by entering "AD\[Your_NetID]" for the username (e.g. "AD\bbadger") and your NetID password
  • You'll be presented with the remote desktops and applications available to you.
  • Select "Dev Desktop Session"
  • A connection file will be downloaded to your computer. Depending on your browser, open the file by clicking it in the download bar or choose "Open".
  • Verify the publisher is "remotedesktop.doit.wisc.edu" then click "Connect".
    • You can check "Don't ask me again for remote connections to this publisher" to bypass future publisher confirmations for the Remote Desktop Service.
    • From this dialog you can also choose which local resources are available to use within your remote connection, such as storage drives, audio devices and printers. To access these options, click "Show Details" at the bottom of the window.
  • Enter your username and password as previously, then click "OK" to be connected to your chosen desktop session.

    Macintosh Users:

Note: Mac OS X users can download the Microsoft Remote Desktop client from the Apple App Store

After the application downloads and installs:

    • Enter your username and password as previously, then click "OK" to be connected to your chosen desktop session.

      Security Warning

Some users of Windows computers have reported that they receive the following warning when they clicked on the "Connect" button from the Remote Desktop Connection client:

"The identity of the remote computer cannot be verified. Do you want to connect anyway?"

This indicates a security certificate (not maintained by ECMS/Imaging) that is self-signed or expired.  It is safe to save the certificate and/or continue with the connection.
